How Often Should Businesses Update Their Marketing Photos?

The honest answer is every one to two years, or sooner if something important changes. Here is how to tell which applies to you.

The short version

Most businesses benefit from updating their professional marketing photos every one to two years, or whenever something important changes. Fresh visuals keep your website, Google listing and social media accurate.

  • Update after a remodel, new hires, new products or a rebrand
  • Fresh photos keep your Google Business Profile active
  • An annual photo and video session keeps it simple

This is one of the questions I get asked most. I'm Sarah, a photographer in Logan, and my answer is the same almost every time: most businesses should update their professional marketing photos every one to two years, or whenever something important about the business changes.

What usually triggers an update?

Businesses tend to update their photos when they renovate or redesign their space, add new team members, launch new products or services, or refresh their website or branding. Keeping photos current helps maintain a professional, trustworthy online presence.

My business has not really changed. Do I still need new photos?

Probably, yes. Even consistent businesses change in small ways. You might add new equipment, update your workspace, expand your services or grow your team. When photos fall behind, they stop reflecting the experience customers will actually have.

Updating periodically makes sure what customers see online matches reality.

How do fresh photos help my website?

Your website is often the first place potential customers learn about you. If the photos are several years old, the whole site can start to feel outdated. Updated photos modernize the look of the site, better represent your current services, and lift the overall professionalism of your brand. Even a small set of new photos can make a website feel refreshed.

What about social media?

Social media platforms reward businesses that stay active with fresh content. New photos let you post service highlights, team introductions, product announcements and behind-the-scenes updates, which keeps your presence interesting and consistent.

Does Google care about my photos?

Customers often look at photos on Google before deciding whether to visit. According to Google's own guidance, businesses with photos receive more requests for directions and more website clicks than listings without images. Updating your photos now and then keeps your listing active and visually appealing.

Sometimes a few new photos are all it takes to make your marketing feel brand new again.

Should I update video at the same time?

It is a good opportunity to. Short video clips can be used for social media marketing, website introductions and promotional content. Capturing photos and video in the same shoot lets you refresh several platforms at once.

Keeping Cache Valley businesses current

Businesses across Logan, Ogden, Brigham City, Layton and Southern Idaho rely on strong visuals to represent their brand. When customers see current images of your space, services and team, they get a clearer picture of what you offer today. If you are thinking about a refresh, start with the parts of your business that have changed or improved.

Business Tip

Schedule content shoots annually. Booking one photo and video session each year lets you update team photos, capture new projects or services, and create fresh marketing visuals on a predictable rhythm, so your content library never falls more than a year behind.

Your business grows and evolves, and your marketing visuals should grow with it. A regular refresh keeps your brand looking current and accurate.

I run Sarah Rasmussen Productions from Logan and photograph and film restaurants, shops, and brands across Logan and Cache Valley, from short seasonal menu sessions to full brand days.
