Signs Your Business Needs Better Marketing Content

Your marketing might be quietly telling customers you are closed, outdated or hard to understand. Here are the five signs I look for, and how to check your own business in ten minutes.

The short version

If your photos are years old, your social media is quiet, you have no video, customers cannot tell what you do, or your visuals do not match each other, your marketing content is due for an update. Each one is fixable, and better content helps customers understand you faster.

  • Outdated or low-quality photos
  • A social feed that rarely gets updated
  • No video showing your services or products

I'm Sarah, a commercial photographer and videographer in Cache Valley. Photos, videos and social posts shape the first impression most customers have of a business. Here is the checklist I run through when an owner asks me whether their content is holding them back.

1. Your photos are outdated

Businesses change. You may have updated your workspace, added team members, or introduced new services or products since your last photos were taken.

If the images in your marketing are several years old, they probably no longer reflect the experience you provide today. Updated visuals make sure your online presence represents your business accurately.

2. Your social media feels inactive

Many customers check a business's social media before deciding to visit or reach out. A page with very few posts, old content or inconsistent visuals can make a business look inactive, even when it is busy.

Regularly sharing photos and video keeps your business visible and relevant.

3. Customers can't clearly see what you do

Some businesses explain their services in text but never show them. Photos and video can show how a service is performed, what products look like, and what the space feels like.

When people can see what you do, they usually understand the value much faster than they would from a paragraph.

An empty feed does not say busy. To a stranger, it says closed.

4. You are not using video

Video has become one of the most effective kinds of marketing content. Short clips can show services in action, behind-the-scenes moments and the personality of your team.

According to Wyzowl's video marketing statistics, 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool, and many report increased engagement with video content. Businesses that add video often see stronger engagement online.

5. Your branding feels inconsistent

If your photos all look different from one another, your marketing can feel scattered. Consistent visuals are what make a brand recognisable.

Professional content helps you keep consistent lighting and style, cohesive visuals across platforms, and a clear picture of your brand, which makes your business easier to recognise and remember.

Business Tip

Review your online presence like a customer would. Open your website and social pages on your phone and ask three questions: Can I quickly see what this business offers? Do the photos clearly show the services or products? Does the business look active and professional? If any answer is unclear, better content will make a real difference.

Every business has a story worth showing. The services you provide, the work you finish and the space you have built are exactly what customers are curious to see, and strong photos and video show them why you are worth choosing.
